INGREDIENTS TO LOOK OUT FOR IN YOUR PET CARE PRODUCTS

INGREDIENTS TO LOOK OUT FOR IN YOUR PET CARE PRODUCTS - Captain Zack

Making sure your dog eats right isn’t the only criteria to ensure his/her health and well-being. It is also important that your dog receives good quality pet care products which are safe. We prefer using perfume brands that are reliable and also make us smell good. It’s the same concept for your pet too! You need to make sure that your pooch is always well-groomed and cleaned with quality pet products. Here are some important ingredients you need to keep in mind while buying those grooming products.

What to avoid-(all substances listed may be present in shampoo and other grooming
products)

1. Artificial fragrance

Synthetic fragrances can cause a variety of problems ranging from hair loss to cancer (in extreme cases). They may also cause endocrine issues especially if phthalates are present.

2. Artificial colours

These are synthesised from petroleum and other dangerous products and cause allergic reactions or organ damage. This may be present in shampoos and other grooming products.

3. Formaldehyde

This is a dangerous organic compound that can cause many skin problems like itching, burning and rashes. It is always good to do a quick check if your pet shampoo has this chemical , if it does you know you need to throw it away!

4. Propylene glycol

This is another harmful chemical, you must stay away from! Propylene glycol is usually present in conditioners and shampoos. Exposure to this chemical causes various skin and respiratory problems.

5. Preservatives

They are used to prolong the product life and make them smell good but at a huge cost! These preservatives, anti-freeze being one of them can cause serious health issues. Lucky for you, Captain Zack pet products are safe and are all preservative free!

Although shampoos and other pet products are not given a lot of importance when it comes to health and safety inspections, it is still important to be educated about the harmful products present in them and try to find a safer substitute. Just because a product is cheaper and smells good doesn’t mean that it is safe to use. Always check the constituents of the product before making a purchase or at least be aware of the brand you are buying i.e. whether it is reliable or not.

Ingredients to look for-

It is important to look for products with natural ingredients as dogs groom by licking themselves.

1. Omega 3 and omega 6

These two goldmines help keep the skin moist and prevent flakiness. This is an important ingredient that helps your pooch maintain a good coat!

2. Aloe Vera

It helps soothe itchy skin and rashes. It will keep the skin soft and the fur smelling fragrant. But like everything in life, this ingredient must not be used in excess, as too much can cause dry skin. It is also advised to check the dog for any allergies before using products with natural ingredients.

3. Citrus Oils

It can be used in shampoos for treating dogs with extra oily skin and fur. If greasy or smelly skin still persists then you will need to take your dog to a vet who will prescribe a special shampoo to solve this issue.

4. Glycerine

It is colourless and non-toxic and used because of its rehydrating properties. It keeps the dog’s skin moist and non-itchy especially between baths and in the summer season!

5. Oatmeal

Oatmeal is well known for its skin healing properties and it helps to balance the pH levels of a dog’s skin. It is also effective at controlling psoriasis and eczema. This ingredient may just be the answer to all your pet’s problems!

Every dog breed is different and cannot use the same products like the others. It is important to know what will suit your dog best and what will be rendered useless or harmful to him/her. In case you are wondering what to consider while buying products, check this article out.
